I've been part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour for nine of the tour's ten seasons but even after back-to-back records for APPT Macau, the PokerStars LIVE Macau poker room has never seen a tournament schedule quite as ambitious as the rebranded PokerStars Championship Macau which begins next week (March 30 - April 9).

The 11-day schedule is absolutely packed and if you're intimidated by the vast options, I'm here to break it down for you.

TROPHY HUNTING

For those who crave the hardware aspect of tournament poker, there are four events that award what PokerStars insiders refer to as the Shard trophy (the big sexy ones pictured above):

Event #4: HK$8,800 PokerStars National Championship (2m GTD, Unlimited Re-Entries) - March 30-April 3
Event #12: HK$400,000 PokerStars Championship Super High Roller (Shot Clock, Unlimited Re-Entries) - April 1-3
Event #21: HK$42,400 PokerStars Championship Main Event - April 3-9
Event #42: HK$103,000 PokerStars Championship High Roller - (Shot Clock, Single Re-Entry) - April 7-9

The National Championship kicks things off for the masses and will certainly be the key event until the Main Event begins four days later. Meanwhile, high stakes players have plenty of options with the High Roller and Super High Roller events listed above as well as...

Here are all the tournaments with buy-ins of HK$80,000 (~US$10,000) or higher:

Event #3: HK$82,400 NLH (Single Re-Entry) - March 30-April 1
Event #28: HK$206,000 NLH (Shot Clock, Single Re-Entry) - April 4
Event #31: HK$82,400 PokerStars Championship PLO (Single Re-Entry) - April 5-6
Event #35: HK$206,000 NLH (Single Re-Entry) - April 6
Event #49: HK$103,000 NLH (Single Re-Entry) - April 8-9

No doubt you'll see plenty of the big names in these events including Team PokerStars Pros ElkY, Nanonoko and Felipe Ramos. Daniel Dvoress has already been confirmed for the Super High Roller and the interest list already includes recent PSC Panama High Roller winner Steve O'Dwyer, Dan Smith, Fabian Quoss, and Ike Haxton just to name a few.

KEY EVENTS

There are other significant events with moderate buy-ins ranging from HK$2,200 to HK$5,500.

Event #6: HK$3,300 PokerStars Cup (1 entry per flight) - March 31-April 3
Event #17: HK$5,500 PokerStars Asia Open (1m GTD, Single Re-Entry) - April 2-3
Event #43: HK$2,200 PokerStars Open (1 entry per flight) - April 7-9
Event #50: HK$5,500 Turbo Edition of the PSC Main Event (Single Re-Entry) - April 9

If you've already been to one of the other PokerStars Championship stops so far then most of these tournaments should be familiar to you. The Macau leg has its own event in the PokerStars Asia Open which carries a HK$1 million prize pool guarantee - and will be an obvious starting point for those who can't play the entire schedule.
