There are quite a few players in the 2014 ACOP Main Event Day 3 field looking a little worse for wear. Why you ask? Well, let's just say there was a bit of a party last night and some alcohol was consumed. Responsible amounts, I'm sure, but enough that some players don't feel 100% healthy.
It's likely there are no regrets, however, as the 2014 ACOP 'Player's Party' was a huge success with dozens have a great time letting their hair down outside of the poker room.
The party took place in an area that some would describe as 'balla'.
It was a private poolside party at the Hard Rock Hotel. There was abundant food, great music, even better company, and the drinks were flowing.
But it wasn't all fun and games.
There were also two very serious, hotly contested 'tournaments' with 'Spadie' trophies up for grabs - one for a 'dice game' tournament and one for a beer pong tournament.
Okay, so maybe it was all fun and games.
The beer pong was undeniably extremely popular. The format pitted teams of two against each other in a knockout style tournament and the rules were pretty much the same as you imagine them to be in a frat-house at any American college.
Perhaps the one main difference between regular beer pong and the ACOP beer pong was that the cups used had water in them that were never drunk and you only had to drink from your own glass of beer. Hygiene is important.
Early in the night it was looking like the main contenders would be the pairing of Team PokerStars Pro Liv Boeree and Russian high roller specialist Igor Kurganov.
Boeree and Kurganov couldn't get it done though.
Boeree's fellow Team PokerStars Pro Vivian Im, however, made it through to the finals with her partner Kim Gap Young.
Unfortunately for Im it was Luis Salter and Rory Brown who ended up triumphant, getting a 'Spadie' for their effort and, I'm sure, plenty of street cred.
Salter got close to winning a trophy here in Macau a few days ago, finishing runner-up in the ACOP Warm-Up to Rono Lo. Claiming the beer pong trophy title might not quite make up for that loss, but it's still a nice little brag.
Those that didn't play the beer pong tournament got involved in the 'dice game' tournament. Some, if they were daring enough, even multi-tabled the events.
If you aren't familiar with the dice game it's quite a basic, yet fun, spin on card games like 'Balderdash' where the concept is to bluff and/or call out the bluffs of your opponents.
In this instance, there were teams of two going up against each other. There were ten dice in play, five for each team. The dice are rolled with each team concealing what they rolled using a cup.
One team then starts by saying "Three twos." The other team then has to say a higher amount like "four twos" and it goes back and forth like an auction. You make your 'bid' based on the information you have with your dice and if you think your opponent is bluffing. You can either keep bidding higher and higher, or call, based on the knowledge of your dice. If you call and the last bid a player made was wrong, then you are winner.
It ended up being two ladies who won the dice tournament - Jane Jawn and Jessica Ho.
They picked up a 'spadie' for their troubles and will now go down in ACOP player party history as having won the first-ever dice game tournament.
Everyone who attended the payer's party certainly had a great time, but now it's back to business as the ACOP Main Event is down to under 50 players and is nearing the money bubble.
It's the top 31 who will finish in the money, while surviving Day 3 will mean players are getting very close to making the final table. Be sure to keep track of the tournament's progress in the live reports section at the top of the 2014 ACOP page!
