Just like that, we've lost another player.
Sadly, this time around its one of our own with PokerStars Team Online's Randy "nanonoko" Lew losing the battle with his short stack to become the latest casualty of the Asia Championship of Poker Main Event.
After Day 2, Lew was the fourth shortest stack of the field with 169 players left. After Day 3 he was the fifth shortest stack with 72 players to go. Despite battling as a short stack for most of this tournament, Lew was able to navigate his way to the final table to have a shot at a remarkable double by becoming the first ever APPT and ACOP Main Event champion.
Lew's tournament came undone when he three-bet squeezed all-in for his last 110,000 chips. Alvan Zheng was the preflop raiser and he folded, but Jonathan Depa made the call with [9h][9d] to have Lew in a world of hurt with his [7s][7h].
The flop was the [9c][6s][5d] with Lew improving from two to four outs, despite Depa flopping a set. Lew would need an eight for the straight, but instead he found himself drawing dead once the [5c] hit the turn to fill up Depa. The [7c] river was salt into the wound as Depa took the pot to eliminate Lew from the ACOP Main Event.
Lew will take home HK$792,000 for his 7th place finish after an incredibly focussed, determined run in this event, as we're now down to our final six players.
